James P. Bagg
James Bagg is an analytical consultant and engineer, who has dedicated his career to the operations, finance and workforce of the military and U.S. government. Through more than a decade of cultivating a unique skill set as an industrial engineer, military officer and consultant, Bagg thrives in difficult operating environments and redesigns processes to achieve results that exceed client objectives. He is influential and persuasive as both a project and people manager, negotiating skillfully to reduce redundancy and eliminate waste across an organization.Given Bagg's experience with the Marine Corps' training, deployment, and war-fighting processes as an Infantry Officer, Booz Allen Hamilton hired him as an Associate on their Advanced Analytics team in Arlington, Virginia. There, his tasks included analytical work for both the Navy and Marine Corps, providing support for enhanced equipment tracking, obsolescence analysis, and simulator optimization. Fiscal constraints with the Department of Defense required exploration into equipment utilization practices, organizational policy and training standards.
Still committed to the Marine Corps, he is a drilling Reservist within the SMCR and the Commanding Officer of an infantry Company in New York.
With a tenacity to win, Bagg is known for pursuing results even in the face of resistance or setbacks. "The differentiation between consultants comes not only in the quality of the analysis, but also in the delivery of the results. The presentation of only complicated equations, technical writing, and indiscernible graphs does little to assist the client or provide results that can be acted upon. It is important to have that data and the analytical work behind it, but the mark of a decent consultant rests in the ability to present results in both an understandable and usable fashion."
Among achievements, Bagg notes his time as an Operations Officer within the Marine Corps where he orchestrated the training and deployment for all Marine Combat Advisors deploying from the East Coast. This consisted of approximately 35 teams that totaled 1,300 Marines during his tenure, who all required operational assessments and mission profiles based on analysis of their proposed operating environment. With a limited budget and exponentially growing resource requirements, Bagg planned, coordinated, and managed all training and operational aspects of the organization. His efforts ensured the provision of top-tier training and task preparation for all students, born out of appropriate mission analysis and effective financial management. Additionally, it was here that he garnered a great understanding and appreciation for defense contractors and consultants, and the vital role they play in military operational support. His staff consisted of 19 Marines and 26 civilian contractors from five separate companies.
Bagg holds a B.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. He is currently pursuing an M.A. in Government from the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts & Science at Johns Hopkins University (expected 2015).
